Thing #5: Flickr

Prior to beginning the 23 Things Experiment, I was familiar with the Flickr website since 2005. A friend of mine told me about the site and was hosting his photos there. After revisiting the site for this blog post, it has developed a lot in the last five years. The most interesting aspect of the site is the Creative Commons and the fact that it is a great website for librarians and teachers to find usable photos. It is also a great way to find others that have similar photography interests.

Thing #3: The Blog Experience - Getting Started

So I previously created a blog for another class in my graduate program but that was last summer and I had to learn it all over again. It seems easy but in fact, it teaches something that we all tend to forget from time to time and that is to: READ DIRECTIONS!!! Once I went back and looked at all of the information and step-by-step instructions, I was able to easily tweak my blog and set it up to my liking. The most difficult and time consuming portion of the whole setup experience was creating my avatar...so many choices and decisions for a little icon of yourself, crazy but lots of fun!!!

Thing #2: Hardest Habits

Some of the habits listed that I find are the hardest for me as a lifelong learner are:
Habit 1 - Begin with the end in mind
- I have trouble setting concrete goals and often like to jump right into things in order to complete them. This is something that I am constantly working on and forcing myself to stick to. Things tend to run much smooth when there is a goal in sight.
Habit 7 1/2 - Play
- As an adult, it is hard to simply find the time to relax and play. Between work, graduate school, relationships, and spending time with my mother and grandmother it is often hard to make time for myself because I am just too tired. This is definitely a habit that I want to work on improving.

Thing #2: Easiest Habits

Some of the habits listed that I find are the easiest for me as a lifelong learner are:
Habit 6 - Use technology to your advantage
- This is the easiest habit for me because I find it difficult NOT to be connected. I am constantly using my iPhone to look up information, find maps, look up a song, check my email, calendars, etc. I also love that I can do a search to troubleshoot anything before having to turn to other resources!
Habit 2 - Accept responsibility for your own learning
- This is also easy because of how I was raised, that nothing is free and you must work hard and earn the things you want in life. My parents also taught me that learning and getting a good education were key components in being successful.

Thing #2: 7 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Learners

After watching this video, I am a little more motivated to complete the 23 Things activities and get more information on how to utilize Learning 2.0 resources. I will discuss the habits I find the easiest and the hardest in my next posts.
